Les préceintes sont taillées dans la masse ... et c'est une galère pour un débutant! Difficile de faire très régulier et en plus pour les positionner il m'a fallu décoller 3 fois (on garde le sourire , bien que là j'ai eu le moral à zéro...) Il m'a fallu des cales (on les voit)  pour que "ça file correctement". Le résultat est beau si c'est bien fait, mais il faut être doué. Je crois que pour le reste je vais prendre du poirier teinté, courageux mais plus téméraire...

The wales are cut into solid wood ...... it is very difficult for a beginer.  Cutting and installing them is very hard.  I had to do it 3 times (keeping a smaile even with a pretty low moral) to get them right.  The result is beautiful if done right and one must have a hand for it.  I think that for the rest I will use stained pearwood.

Vous n'avez pas choisi la facilité en voulant faire les préceintes en ébène. Je trouve que c'est un bois difficile à travailler et il faut pas mal d'expérience pour s'en sortir correctement.(B Froelich n'a plus de problème!) Jusqu'à présent je n'ai fais que des petites pièces avec cette essence, c'est vrai que l'aspect est bien meilleur que le bois teinté. De plus, vu le prix du produit, celà fait mal au coeur lorsqu'on rate la pièce! Mais rien ne vous empèche d'essayer encore.

You did not choose the easy way by making the wales out of ebony.  I found that it was a difficult wood to work with and one must be experienced to do it correctly (b. Froelich does not have any problems).  Up to now I have only made small parts with this wood and it is true that the effect is much nicer than stained wood.  Looking at the price it is heart breaking when a part is not right, but nothing says that you cannot keep trying.

Je referai surement l'autre préceinte du coté ouvert (charpente visible) en ébène disons... pour me faire la main. La crainte c'est du coté bordé, là je ne m'appelle pas Frölich!. En plus la teinte noire des Frères Nordin donne un très bon résultat (je ne sais pas si vous l'avez déjà essayé au lieu du brou de noix, mon fils qui a l'oeil l'a confondu avec l'ébène!)

Most likely I will redo the wale on the open framing side and use ebony ... to get better at it.  The apprhension is for the planked side as my name is not Frolich!  Further more the stain by "les frères Nordin" is a good finish.  I do not if you already trid it but my son (who has a good eye) though that it was ebony!

Je suis très occupé en ce moment et j'ai trop peu de temps pour le GV.En plus la temperature depuis 10 jours n'est guère favorable pour se concentrer sur le travail (30-35° C) et pour ajouter à tout ça je dois être opéré de la main droite au mois d'aout (rien de grave et seulement une semaine de handicap)!. Cela ne m'empêche pas d'admirer vos progrès à tous:

Que dire de votre travail Jean Paul si ce n'est qu'il me sert de réfence, vous êtes prêt pour le commerce de Marseille . Il faudra continuer à nous présenter le futur model au jour le jour
Je vois avec plaisir que Pierre s'est joint activement au forum et j'espère que Bosco ne soufre pas trop de la séparation...
 A part ça je me débrouille un peu mieux avec l'ebene. Je me suis aussi initié au cloutage, à l'ouverture des sabords, commmencé un peu de bordage (calfatage imité avec du papier noir), je vais terminer la charpente arrière...

These days I have been quite busy and I have not had much time to work on my GV.  Also, the temperature has been a little high to be able to concentrate on working and I am schedule for surgery on my right hand in August (nothing serious and I should be out for about a week).
I have still been able to follow everyone's progress.
Bob, I think that at one point I was ahead of you, but not anymore.  Brsvo.  I will also be looking into cutting an opening in the framing.
Jean Paul, what is there to say about your work except that I use it as a reference.  Are you ready to start on the 118 gun ship.  I hope that you will still post picture so that we can follow your progress.
Marcel, I hope that you do not miss your GV too much and I am happy to see that Pierre has become active in the forum.
Beside that, I am doing much better working with ebony.  I have also been working on nailing, cutting gunport openings, caulking (made with black paper).  I will be completing the stern framing....
