In two days my CD-i 604 with cartridge and network will arrive here. No other stuff whatsoever so are there any thing I really need? Are there things I need to try or do with it?

Anything about this system other than the info from icdia is welcome!

Nice to see that you will get a CD-i player! http://pradogatao.free.fr/cdi/img_sp_forum_smile_12.gif

About the Network nit, don't forguet that the CD-i server (web-i form CD online) is down. So no internet access from your CD-i player... But keep this kit because it can be a precious thing in the futur...

Anything else you need... a controler or a gamepad to play titles.

You should be able to use the network kit by dialing into a PC and using internet connection sharing. I know some people have done this with the Dreamcast, but personally I never got it to work. The original CD-i internet software dialed to a modembank connected to a SGI indy system.

CD-i 604, I think it will run MediaMogul. Although I don't think I've ever tried that on mine. other than that it's just a CD-i player in a different color. Or did this one have network and scsi connectors? You should be able to compile programs and run them from the floppy drive though.

To make your own CD-i totle, you need to know a special programation called "C" (letter C).

Yes, it will be great!  http://pradogatao.free.fr/cdi/img_sp_forum_smile_41.gif

No, that is not entirely true. You can also program at a lower level directly in assembly (with the Green Book as help) or at a higher level with MediaMogul (this uses scrpting, I think there's also a manual for that on blackmoonproject). But don't think it's easy to just develop a CD-i program (and you'd better get a CDI605T, the floppy disk space is going to run out pretty fast).

I just bought last week a license for a CD-i programing tool.

MOGULIKE (full version), a demo version are available on a website.
For this one, you need to know C.

We are working on some tests with Delorehal (a member).
But I will take a look at what you said...

Cheers

I have my 604 here now.
It works fine but MediaMogul (2.2.1) does the same as on my 220.
It runs, shows the main menu and the mousepointer stays an hourglass, I can click on everything but it doesn't work at all.

It has a network card and an extra serial like port on an expansion card. What to do with that?

What can I do to make some stuff on this machine?

Just wait. It takes a long time before MediaMogul has loaded. You will see a hourglass for a very long time and then the screen goes black for a short moment, and then you 're in MediaMogul. (2.2.1)

In the main menu do not click on 'CDRTOS' unless you have a CDi keyboard attached to your player. Otherwise the only alternative that's left is restart te player.

Success.

Ok this time everything is back together and I'm waiting.
My version has a FMV and network, but what to connect to the second connector? any idea?

Lot of detailed pictures and maybe somebody can explain me some more, also: what can I do with diskettes and how to format them? (pc format?)

The KeyControl was aimed for consumer players and developed in a later stadium rather than the prof. 6xx series. It is not the same keyboard as was used with professional players. I thought it was a Mitsumi authoring board being used for that (not working on consumer cd-i players).

Authoring manuals were available from www.p4c.philips.com but the list is getting smaller it seems...

ok but CAN you use the consumer ones on the professional ones for programming?

And I'm waiting for about 30 minutes now and still I see the hourglass, see photo:

can move the pointer, can click but nothing happens

I've tried it already on my 450 an on a 602 but mediamogul doesn't work you can wait until you get gray and your hair is falling out but it doesn't load properly.....

http://pradogatao.free.fr/cdi/img_sp_forum_smile_15.gif

You must have a autoring system to run it.....

The 604 is not an authoring system, take a look at ICDIA. Only the CDI180 (and then only with the third module installed), the 605T and the I2M card are authoring systems AFAIK. I do have a second CDI605T authoring player, but IIRC the cd-mechanism is was not working properly.

You can use the networking connection on the 604 via RTOS and there are probably disks that use this (no idea which though).

I just looked at the 604 and mine also won't run mediamogul. I have the manual, butit's the usual crap. Mine doesn't have the network and scsi connectors btw, although I do have the board from another player. And I found a white CD-i mouse in the box, never realized I had one of those .

So the 604 and 605 use the same cd-mechanism, so my 605 player looks repairable. The video board inside the 605 also has different ROMS, or at least it's labelled as 605-video board.
