j'attaque les serre-gouttières ... brutalement, une question existencielle me taraude :
Sur les plans, il semble que le dernier bau, au dessus de la lisse d'hourdi, n'a pas de queue d'aronde pour tenir la gouttière. Est-ce volontaire, ou un oubli de quelques traits ?

Starting work on the waterways ..... and all of a sudden I have a question:
It would seem that on the plans there is no dovetail on the wing transom to hold the waterway.  Is it volontary or was that detail forgotten?

La présence de la courbe horizontale et la courbure du dernier bau font que l'on peut se passer de queue d'aronde pour le maintien de la fourrure et de la serre gouttière.
On peut éventuellement ajouter une entaille sur l'arrière du bau mais ça ferait double emploi.

The horizontal knee and the cant of the last beam allows not cutting a dovetail to hold the inner waterway and waterway.
It is possible to cut a notch on the aft face of the beam, but it would be redendent.

Fabrication des gouttières
Making the water-ways

Tailler un barreau carré, avec un gras d'environ 1mm en largeur et hauteur, puis le courber horizontalement suivant la courbe des couples:

Cut a billet of wood oversized by about 1 mm in width and height.  Then cut or bend following the curve of the frames:




Le poncer en biais côté extérieur pour l'appliquer sur les couples:

Sand the outside bevel so that it fits against the frames:




Vérifier qu'il s'applique correctement:

Repérer les queues d'aronde:

Work out the location of the dovetail notches:




Tailler la cote intérieure des queues d'aronde, en gardant un peu de marge, elles seront finies à la main aux étapes suivantes:

Cut the inside of the dovetail notches keeping some extra wood.  The cuts will be fianlized at a later stage.




Vérifer qu'il n'y a pas d'erreur de positionnement des entailles, rectifier au besoin, puis agrandir les entailles à la cote exacte de l'intérieur des queues d'aronde. On reste toujours à ce stade à une entaille rectiligne "intérieure":

Check to make sure that the notches are placed in the right spots, then enlarge the notches to the exact dimension.  At this point keep the notch square sided.




Tracer la ligne des surfaces internes du vaigrage et du bordage:

Trace the lines corresponding to the inner-planking and deck planking:




Creuser la gouttière, en faisant attention à ne jamais toucher le trait, il ne sera plus possible ensuite de rajouter du bois   Le surplus sera retiré après la pose du vaigrage et du bordage, par grattage au tarabiscot:

Give the waterway its shape making sure not to take the lines out as if there is a mistake you will not be able to add wood .  The extra material will be taken off after installation of the planking.  It can be scraped off.




L'ensemble est près à être monté (au premier plan, le tarabiscot permettant de fignoler la gouttière). Poncer si besoin les bords intérieurs pour donner la bonne taille à l'ensemble, ajuster la forme de la gouttière:

It is now ready to be installed (the scraper used to give the waterway its final shape is shown in the forefront).  Sand the inside edges if needed to get the right dimension and give it its final shape:




Mettre en forme les queues d'aronde. C'est le moment le plus délicat, il faut y aller petit à petit, en commençant par une extrémité (la poupe dans mon cas), agrandir progressivement la largeur sur la gouttière, et la profondeur sur les baux, dont les queues d'aronde avaient volontairement été faites trop petites. Une fois qu'une queue d'aronde s'emboite, passer à la suivante:

Finish the dovetail notches.  It is the most delicate time as it must be done litle by litle; starting at one side (aft in my case).  Enlarge the width and the height as they were initially cut to small.  Work on them one at a time.




L'ensemble s'emboite parfaitement, il ne reste plus qu'à courber si besoin la gouttière dans le sens vertical afin de lui faire épouser la forme du pont, avant de coller l'ensemble en place définitive :

Everything fits perfectly.  All that is left to do is to curve the waterway in order to follow the horizontal plane of the deck (before gluing)

Avant de coller la serre-gouttière, ne faudrait-il pas mettre des entremises entre les baux le long de la muraille? Un détail qui ne se verra d'ailleurs pas par la suite

Would not it be wise to install some spacers between the beam along the side of the deck befor the waterways are glued in place?  A detail that will not be seen later
