Hello Jean Paul, Sounds like very good advice. As you can see from the photo I mark the lines on the outside of the hull with an adjustable pencil height gauge and then check the marks with the machinist height gauge. In spite of the double check on measurements, I found I had to move a portion of the deck beam clamp on the port bow. A height error which I did not notice until I attempted to install a ceiling plank below it. c'est la vie -------------------- Une bonne suggestion. Bob --Last edited by G. Korent on 2006-05-04 16:52:23 -- |

------------- I see that the frames are nicely lined up, it is difficult to do. As for the inner planking, it looks like the forward part of the planks has been cut to follow the shape and not just bent in place. Am I mistaking? Pierre B. --Last edited by G. Hello Pierre, Actually The bow and stern ceiling planks were soaked in plain water for about 15 Minutes and bent wet in a jig. (Gilles may post some photos I sent separately). When dry the planks were cut to the proper taper on a belt sander. They were then soaked again in plain water and applied wet to the hull and clamped in place with some modest sideways bending. When dry, after a few hours, they were glued and clamped to the frames. Some final sanding should finish the ceiling installation. The biggest problem is in improvising suitable clamping below the turn of the bilge. I even resorted to cutting wedges to hold some of the planks in place. Also I found sanding inside the the doubly concave surface of the bow tedious at best. A good set of riffler files helps. I am still not finished sanding. Seems like I spend as much time sanding as I do building. Regards Bob --Last edited by G. Thank you Jean-Paul for the compliment, even though I have much room for improvement. You, Marcel and Gilles as well as the other GV participants have been a great inspiration. Perhaps I'll one day still reach the "Arsenal" caliber ------------------ Jean Paul, merci pour les compliments, même si j'ai encore beaucoup de progrès à faire. Regards Bob --Last edited by G. Hello all I should probably note that the stern frame assembly jig is being fabricated ala Gilles Korent. The above Photo is of a dry fit to check the angle. The dovetails in the foot of the frames are not yet cut. Curvature of the transom is also still to added to the jig. You will also note that the frames joints are on the wrong sides of the sternpost. That will corrected before gluing in the final assembly. Regards Bob --Last edited by G. Korent on 2006-05-26 08:04:22 -- |

Nice work. Just one question: as far as I can see, you're going to let one side without planking. What about the 2 ranks of "spacers" you added between the frames on the higher parts ? Are they glued and going to remain in place ? Joli travail. ![]() |

Armand, Thank you for your comment. The spacers referred to were used originally because I neglected to leave enough extra length on the frames. Actually embarrassing as it is, I must admit I mistook the backside of the beam clamps on plate 10 for spacers which would provide an alterative to the the bracing on the extra length of the frames. Gilles was kind enough to call me on this error early on, but I had already made most of the frames and needed some way to hold the frames together for fairing. My original intention was to pop out all of those spacers, to be consistent with the plans but I got carried away with the interior planking and put it off. I believe I can still pop most of them out. In any case they will be covered by exterior planking from the wales up on both the port and the starboard ides as well as interior planking from the deck up. Below the wales I will likely fully plank the starboard side and leave the port side unplanked except for a few planks below the wales. Bob --Last edited by Rpowell on 2006-05-26 08:44:52 -- |

Yes, I remember now Gilles note. Anyway, if it's hidden, I think the best is to leave them in place, and not take any risk about breaking something. Nobody, but you, will see them once finished ;) Oui, je me rappelle la remarque de Gilles maintenant.
