Hello Marcel,

Yes I am building all of the GV frames wuth swiss pearwood.  I really like the way it reponds to cutting and sanding.  I also have pear for the ceiling and exterior planking. I think it will take a nice finish.  
I have ebony for the wales if I ever get that far. I thought holly for the decks would look nice as well, but that will be a while yet.
My big challenge now is to start the hawse timbers.

Oui j'utilise du poirier (étuvé).  Bonne qualité de découpe, ponçage et je pense qu'il prendra bien le fini.
J'ai de lÉbène pour les préceintes; si j'en arrive là.  Je pensais utiliser du houx pour les ponts mais j'en suis encore loin.
Maintenant mon challenge et de débuter les allonges d'écubiers.

Actually I was wondering if it wouldn't be good practice to do the hawse pipes next and work the remainder of the frames back from there.

Vous pouvez faire comme bon vous semble, cela ne changera pas grand chose au bon avancement du GV. Mais effectivement , pour varier un peu du travail sur les couples, les allonges seront un bon divertissement.

Bob, It is up to you to chose as it will not affect your progress on GV.  Though, the hawse timbers can be started only to vary the work from frame making.

Yes, the hawse timbers were a difficult step for me even with a jig. I am afraid that after several dozen unsuccessful attempts I settled for a less than perfect construction.
Yes the spacers are a bit thin.  I made the hawse pipes slightly oversize for sanding to the correct profile. But I had forgotten that the sanding because of the angle of the pipes would significantly reduce the thickness of the spacers.

Oui les allonges m'ont été difficiles à faire. J'ai peur qu'après des douzaines de tentatives je me sois contenter pour moins que la perfection.
La maille est un peu petite.  J'ai decoupé les allonges un peu plus grosses que nécessaire et elles seront poncer pour obtenir le bon profile.  Mais j'ai également oublié que le ponçage va rendre les garnitures plus étroites.

Yes the hawse timbers are lighter in color. I did not have thick enough billets in my original swiss pear order and had to special order some thicker billets of pear to construct the hawse pipes. Apparently my special order was pear but not Swiss pear. Perhaps I can correct it in the final finish, if I elect not to plank over it.

Les allonges sont de couleur un peu plus clire.  J'ai du commander des planchettes plus large pour les faire.  Ma commande originale comprenait du poirier étuvé et apparament j'ai reçu du poirier non étuvé pour ma 2ème commande.  Je pourrais peut être rectifié au moment de l'application du fini si je décide de ne pas tout border.

Give it some time, Bob. The new Swiss pear will tone down over time and all will eventually reach a darker tone. I used Swiss pear and boxwood on my current model and they have both acquired the same tone after about a year.

Donnez lui quelque temps et votre poirier deviendra éventuellement plus foncé. J'ai utilisé du poirier et du buis sur mon modèle en cours de construction et après environ un an, leur ton est devenu similair.
