I am probably being thick but can anyone tell me what timbers A and B are shown on these frames?  Thanks in advance

In A, it is one rider * with the mizzen mast step * . In B, it is an other rider *. The both are shown in plate 12.

* I think it is the right word in English.

En A, c'est une porque avec la carlingue du mât de misaine. En B, c'est une autre porque. Les deux sont montrés planche 12.
