Hi Gilles,

Can someone give me an English translation of Spirketting?
It is used on page 132 of Boudriot's "74 Gun Ship" and elsewhere.)

I have checked The French and the English listings in Roberts "A Marine Vocabulary" and Falconer with no luck. Also Babelfish does not translate it. I notice that Roberts uses it in the English edition of "The 74 Gun Ship" while it does not appear in the French edition. Is it in fact an English word?

Thank you
Bob

Regarding the preceeding.  I have found that it is an English term, (It appears in the English listing of Roberts) but I am still not sure what it means. My best guess is it is sheathing or something similar.

Sorry

The spirketting usually refers to the one or two thicker planks that are located just above the waterways.
